You may be surprised to learn that the theological and biblical conversation around abortion is not as clear cut as you may have assumed. In fact, whichever direction one personally leans in the debate, it turns out that passages from the bible can be used to make the argument either way - even if the public religious discourse is decidedly one sided.
The format will be a 1 hour presentation followed by 30 mins of questions and comments. Much of the presentation will draw on Margaret Kamitsuka's epic work: "Abortion and the Christian Tradition: A Pro-Choice Theological Ethic.”
To be clear, this session is not intended as just another binary "pro-choice vs pro-life" debate. Instead, it is intended as a safe space specifically for those who wish to explore a more open and nuanced theological position which allows for the centring of the pregnant person's own moral agency in the reproductive justice conversation, particularly when it comes to crisis pregnancies.
The event is free, but registration is required via the button below.
